WHITESNAKE Frontman Defends Decision To Join ROCK NEVER STOPS Tour
May 7, 2003WHITESNAKE frontman David Coverdale has addressed fan concerns over the group's decision to embark on this summer's Rock Never Stops 2003 package tour alongside WARRANT, SLAUGHTER and KIP WINGER. The trek, which will reportedly feature WHITESNAKE in the headlining slot, is tentatively set to kick off on July 18.
In a posting to WHITESNAKE's official message board, Coverdale writes, "Whether you, or I, feel that I should be going out on a different kind of tour, it is not, at this time, how I, or [WHITESNAKE] is perceived in the U.S. by promoters or media. I do not have a problem with this... Well, not a 'BIG' problem... So, in order for me to be able to afford to 'get out on tour' and spread the word, as it were, and indeed, change that very perception, is to accept this kind of package... and GET OUT THERE. And by this I mean absolutely no disrespect to the bands I will be working with. So far I haven't been offered an opening for the STONES, or U2 as yet, so my choice at this time, quite honestly, is to do this tour, or spend the summer at home, as I have done for many, many summers over the last few years. Altho' this is a very desirable family opportunity, my decision is made, and I am looking very much forward to working again in the States." Last year's edition of Rock Never Stops featured TESLA, VINCE NEIL, SKID ROW and JACKYL.
